10-12 May 2024, I would die for anything hosted a solo exhibition of painting, sculpture and video artwork at Honduran artist Gabriela Galeano Batres.
Time stands still between the streets and hills of Honduras. There is a peace that exists at the point of acceptance, where relentless stillness is torn from its roots and replanted as a seedling of artistic evolution, seeking value in a desire that might never be indulged.
Confession from a Stone sees multidisciplinary artist Gabriela Galeano Batres articulate the dated values of a heritage rich in archaic gender roles and inherited structures in earth-tone acrylics. A blend of painting, sculpture and video works presents mountain and city-scapes alike, defined by faded capitalist motifs and animalistic familial figures. The audience is invited to step into this postcard of a country on the verge of modernity, the forward motion of social change grinding gently on the curves of a stone desperate to roll, seeking a momentum of its own.
